Let's Change 47 together

The average life expectancy of people who are homeless is 47 for a number of reasons. Health conditions such as heart, respiratory and cancer are not addressed with early interventions. There is also a higher propensity for suicide, mental health, safety concerns, drug overdose and alcohol consumption. Sleep deprivation further impacts both physical and mental health conditions. Beddown addresses these concerns by providing a safe and comfortable place to sleep and access to early intervention services. Are you ready to change people’s lives and save people’s lives, starting with a safe place to sleep?

Why Change 47?

Beddown Founder, Norm Mcgillivray, explains why he is inspired to Change 47.  It's shocking that the average life expectancy for someone who is homeless is just 47. This means lives are cut short by more than 30 year earlier than the average Australian.

About inCommunity

inCommunity Inc. was founded in 1982 as a youth homeless organisation in Ipswich, Queensland.  Over the years the organisation expanded to support families and adults and a broader region. In May 2022 Beddown became a part of inCommunity joining sister organisations inCommunity Connect and Tenancy Skills Institute.

inCommunity Connect does exactly as the name suggests — it connects people to housing and community support in the greater Ipswich area, while the Tenancy Skills Institute helps people secure better rental outcomes through education support services across Australia.

It's like a big family here. The volunteers are amazing. They go above and beyond. Programs like this, they provide so many different services that help you bounce back. I've got a job from this place!"
